About us

The "Il mondo in casa" (The world at home) Cooperative was founded in February 2005 in the city of Bergamo, bringing together a group of B&B and Holiday Homes owners coming from a previous co-op initiative, with the help of a European Community grant and support from a number of official bodies.

Through the cooperative formula, the idea was to embrace the principle that "there is safety in numbers" and show that people are no islands, but part of an archipelago of men and women who choose to operate together, pool effort, work, ideas and resources and give life to a common project.

Our cooperative's main objective is the concrete promotion of quality home hospitality, by helping and assisting our members in starting up, running and promoting their business on one hand, while also offering our guests a new way to travel and get to know the territory.

Equally important to us is to support and keep up quality standards not only applied to accommodation facilities but also, and foremost, to the kind of hospitality; our guests are welcomed with friendly warmth, and professionalism: staying in our homes can easily turn into a "travel memory" to recall with pleasure.

The cooperative, aiming to implement and diversify services to its members, while becoming more and more visible and present on the home hospitality market and working to set up and develop a quality tourism strictly bound to territory promotion, was among the founding members of Consorzio 2 Laghi (that is, Lakes Iseo and Endine) and is also in the Tourist Development and Promotion Consortium of Bergamo's province. It is moreover a Legacoop partner and actively collaborates with a number of establishments in Lombardy dealing with home hospitality and alternative tourism.

Our accommodation facilities cover more or less the city of Bergamo and its province, with a limited presence also on Lake Iseo shore in Brescia's province. Since the foundation our members, not surprisingly most of them women, nearly doubled in number, thus rewarding the work and effort of those who believed and continue to believe in this cooperative formula in a sector where cooperatives are still very few. "Il mondo in casa" can certainly claim to be the first, and up until now the only one, in Lombardy.
